Photographic print of the experimental supersonic jet. The P1A became the basis for the RAF's front line fighter, the English Electric (later BAC) Lightning. The aircraft WG763 was the second of two prototypes of this design ordered by the RAF from English Electric. P1A WG763 reached a maximum speed of Mach 1.53.
