Aquatinted illustration of the locomotive 'Jupiter' pulling carriages, entitled 'Travelling on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway'.
It was not only people that trains carried. The Liverpool and Manchester Railway was the first to transport the mail. The train transported letters much faster. Behind the passengers with their piled-up luggage is a mailcoach.
