This collection documents three of Ayrton's major areas of research: the formation of sand ripples under water by ripple-forming vortices; the creation of satisfactory specifications for the carbons used in searchlight projectors, as requested by the Admiralty; and the invention of the Ayrton Fan for dispelling clouds of poison gas in WWI.
