Letter from Joshua Dixon to Reverend T Greenwood

My dear Sir

W Hamilton told me a week ago
that you had fixed tomorrow morning
to go to Hull along with him – he desired
when you came that [illegible] tell you
he could not go till Thursday.
I presume you have given up your
intended visit for the present – indeed
Mr [illegible] will be at York & your visit
could only therefore be to your sister.

I found all your papers on the Table
and your umbrella in the Passage. &
when [illegible] told you were off I said
poor creature it was well he did not
leave his head. Among the papers sent
is a book probably from Robinsons.

The umbrella I will not send for fear
of loss or damage.

I sent your letter to Mr Hamilton this
evening.

There is such a noise among us that I
scarcely know what [illegible].

I saw Mr Foster the other day he tells
me that the poet forgot to sign the Parish
register of the funerals at [illegible] he
requests he will do it the first opportunity

We do on very well with smoke
both sides alike confident of success –
about the 1st April we presume we shall
know.

Parson King is going to take Coburn’s [?]
school from him. What will become of
the Hymnbook. His boys all come from
the Lancasterian School [illegible] King has
prevailed on [illegible] to order them all

Of course our friend is in no little dudgeon.
