Manchester, Aug. 20th: 1798

Gentlemen –

I have now very nearly completed the
printing of my Miscellaneous Volume, & wish
to know when you would have the Copies sent
to you, & whether you would choose to publish
it at present, or to defer its appearance till
winter. If you intend to publish it immediately,
you may advertise it accordingly for I shall receive a
proof of the last sheet & title page this day.
The title will be, “Illustrations of Sterne, with other
Essays & Verses” by John Ferriar M.D. [title & author underlined] The Illustrations [underlined] occupy two
thirds of the Volume, which will contain a-
-bout 316 pages. The other essays are; On certain [previous 2 words underlined]
Varieties of Man, described by author [all preceding words underlined]; a [illegible, underlined]
-[illegible] Essay on English Historians [all preceding words underlined]; & as Essay
on Genius [?] [both preceding words underlined]. The verses are short –
As I see that you receive subscriptions for Dr.
Fuller’s History of Berwick, I wish upon you to put down
my name for a Copy.
