Dearest [illegible],

Electric Light [previous two words underlined]
I have found the
Authors’ original paper
in the Comptes Rendus [previous two words underlined].
From what is there stated
And from experiments
I have tried here, I
am of opinion that the
discovery is a most
valuable one. The
employment of the
induction coil entirely
removes the objection
which seemed to me
so grave, whilst it admits
of the [illegible] being
carried to an indefinite

extent. You will
observe that the
authors speak of a light
of one or two [illegible – lumieres?]
(gas).

My experiments
here have just showed
me that with more
powerful means the
method would be sure
to answer, but my coil
is too delicate to make
me care to risk injuring
it by putting a more
powerful battery on it.

As you may like to
see the inventors’ ori-
-ginal paper, I send
the Comptes Rendus [previous two words underlined], by
this post.

I hope to see you on
Monday at 7.

Believe me
very truly yours
William Crookes
