Describing an improved rudder capable of being lowered into the water when the main rudder is above the waterline. Four vessels, including Pluto, feature sliding keels which result in a conventional rudder being often out of the water. The improved rudders can be lowered into the water at the same time as the sliding keel and have been found to be perfectly manageable.
