The original manuscript was written in 1922 at the request of Dr E C Worden and was intended to form part of a volume of the "Technology of Cellulose Esters". Part of the manuscript covers the biography of Alexander Parkes, including an account of his invention of nitrocellulose plastics as well as his other discoveries, including cold vulcanizing, factis, and desilverizing lead and phosphor bronze.
