Thesis entitled 'Future developments in aircraft design'

Whittle's original thesis on Jet Propulsion by Rocket, and the Gas Turbine as a Power Plant for Aircraft, written whilst a Flight Cadet at Cranwell. The thesis is written in a Royal Air Force notebook, which was later bound and bears the title 'The original "thesis" on the gas-turbine engine by Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle'. Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle notes in correspondence regarding donating his thesis (letter dated 21st December 1949) that some pages of his thesis may be missing: "There appears to be at least one page missing from the thesis, but as I did not number the pages it is impossible say whether one or more are missing."
