The author, assumed to be Field, writes in the introduction that, having visited Blaenavon Iron Works with his friend, Charles Hill in the summer of 1817, he will "transcribe from Coxe's History of Monmouthshire what he has said of them, inserting & adding whatever observations I may choose to make". With a note of 1841 added at end.
