FIDO was a programme for the dispersal of fog on runways during World War 2. The name FIDO was adopted to stand for Fog Investigation Dispersal Operation, later being adjusted by the RAF to refer to Fog, Intensive Dispersal Of. It is estimated that nearly 3,000 allied aircraft, and about 15,000 crew, took off or landed safely, thanks to FIDO.
