- Made:

- maker:
- Adams, George
The manuscript gives descriptions and illustrations of scientific instruments and apparatus commissioned by King George III and produced by George Adams, and outlines 54 experiments for which they were designed. Adams kept explanations of the physical principles being demonstrated to a minimum, but provided references to printed works where further information was available. The citations to the printed texts refer predominantly to the 'Mathematical Elements of Natural Philosophy' by Dutch mathematician and philosopher Willem ’s Gravesande, but include 18 other publications, such as the works of Helsham, Desaguliers, Gravesande, Nollet, Hauksbee et al. Order of the experiments generally follows that given by ’s Gravesande, with experiments from other books added subsequently. ’s Gravesande’s Mathematical Elements is by far the most frequently cited work, accounting for 44 of 57 references.
