This exhibition, 'preparatory to an exhibition upon a large scale in 1869', took place at Crystal Palace 25 Jun-3 Jul, and included light engines and machines, models and drawings, kites, mortar, etc. The balloon 'Captif' would make ascents to 1000 feet. 'James Glaisher, F.R.S., will ascend during the nine days for meteorological purposes'.
