The manuscript outlines minimal instructions for use of the machines, along with citations to the printed texts from which the experiments were taken: predominantly 'Mathematical Elements of Natural Philosophy' by Dutch mathematician and philosopher Willem ’s Gravesande, but including 18 other publications, such as the works of Helsham, Desaguliers, Gravesande, Nollet, Newton et al. The order of the experiments generally follows that given by ’s Gravesande, with experiments from other books inserted at relevant points within ’s Gravesande’s sequence.
