The photographs relate to a 19 year old who only had to complete 45 minutes of national service. He had signed up for three years aged 17 but, as his parents depended on him to help with their removal business, he bought himself out after a year. When, a year later, he was called up for national service, he made an appeal and was allowed to be transferred to the Territorial army. The photographs were sourced from Cater's News Agency photo library.
