The photograph relates to a style of building concrete blocks of flats using hydraulic jacks. The new system was hoped to reduce the costs caused by having to lift men and materials higher than 12 stories. The top story is built first then thrust up into the air so that the next highest story can be built beneath it and so on. The photograph was taken by Smith for the Daily Herald.
