Typographic poster, 4 sheet size.

Designed by Manchester-based Craig Oldham, this poster design appeared on the streets of Manchester and then nationwide from April 2020. It was created after Craig Oldham was approached by creative agency Dorothy to create something for an online exhibition called Isolation Nation, and media agency Jack Arts invited him to produce something for display on their poster sites across Manchester. Subsequently, a smaller version with updated content was created and sold to raise money for Eat Well MCR, a collective providing meals to vulnerable people in Greater Manchester.

The typographic design features job titles of roles that earn below £25,000 or of professional roles where the starting salary for an entry level position is below that threshold. In February 2020, Home Secretary Priti Patel announced a points-based immigration scheme for the UK to come into effect on 1st January 2021. This scheme was aimed at reducing ‘unskilled’ and ‘low skilled’ immigration to the UK. One of the ways it defined low skilled jobs was as earning below £25,600. In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic made itself fully felt in the UK and many of the people doing those same jobs were defined as ‘key workers’. This poster design was responding to this, highlighting the importance of NHS workers and other ‘key’ or ‘essential’ workers in the response to the pandemic and criticising the government's hypocrisy over their valuing of the named roles.
