Draft letter written on a previous note

Sir

The Experiment [illegible]
Ascertaining the length of the Pendulum
[illegible] seconds of time in the latitudes of London
have in consequence of a request from HM Sec of
State for the home department [illegible] March 22 [illegible]
been undertaken by 3 fellows of the Royal Society they are
at present in great [illegible] & attend [illegible]
well [illegible] here. Not Extreme as the difficulty of
ascertaining this Result has been hitherto find [?] by
men of Science of all nations it will now be Effectively
done, the cost [illegible] as I have yet been able to
ascertain it is not much more than one hundred
pounds but more money must be expended before
the business can be completed.

The second requisition of the
House of Commons that of determining the variations in length
Of the said Pendulum is the [illegible] of the
[illegible]will be more expensive as the
the person entrusted with the [illegible] of [illegible] must
travel over a considerable distance of country which they
cannot be expected to do at their own cost this Experiment
I conclude will commence early in May.

Under these [illegible] I request

the favor of you Sir to lay this letter before the Lords [illegible]
of HM Treasury & move their Lords [illegible] to order a [illegible] of
money of such amount as they shall deem [illegible].

have already been incurred as well as to provide for the
[illegible] which will [illegible] shortly Required to be Liquidated.
