incessant rain all day, principally occupied in the office.

3rd day 31. A most agreeable change in the weather since yesterday – the atmosphere is dry and genial, in the sunshine [struck through] shade still a little damp and chill. I have been pretty actively engaged all day at the works in superintending the mechanical department.

4th day 1/11mo. I had a note from Bro. Wm. informing me that the Committee for carrying out the arrangements for the opening of the

Auckland & Weardale Railway would meet at the S. & D. Railway Station at ½ past nine – attended at that hour and made the preliminary arrangements for the dinner & c. – the rest of the day actively employed at the works untill 7 Oclock.

5th day 2/11mo. Forenoon occupied with business connected with the S. & D.R. Co. – afternoon and evening in weighing off chairs and Keys for the Weardale Railway.

6th day 3/11mo. Seven directors met at the Board to [struck through] - T Meynell J in the Chair.
