laying some of the pipes down they appeared faulty and on trying them found them to be so. I requested to select the worst out & send them to the works to be recast at our expense.

3rd & 4th Several business matters attended to.

5th day Wrote a long letter to Bro. J. K. – on Railway and other business [struck through] matters

6th day 19/7 mo. Rose at ½ past 5 – and after breakfasting went by Special train in company with several friends to Stockton – thence by Omnibus to Ayton to attend the General meeting of the North of England

Agricultural School – reached Ayton at 10 minutes past 9 – walked about the grounds until ten, and went [struck through] attended meeting. Elishia Nicholl and Samuel Tuke were I think the only two strange ministers who sat [struck through] from a distance in the gallery. There was a large attendance both of men and women friends – the first named friend rose fo [struck through] and addressed us. “Behold I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you, ye shall find the babe wrapped in Swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” Luke Chap. 2. Verses 10. 11.12.
