Wristlet, cask shaped opaque white stone threaded on twisted hide thong, worn to protect wearer's horse from horse sickness (nigma) vernacular El Barad (cold), Kordofan peoples, Sudanese, 1870-1908

This opaque stone was said to fall from the sky with the hail, hence the name El Barad, meaning cold. It was worn by a person to protect their horse against sickness (nigma).
