Silver amuletic pendant moulded to represent monstrous beast, La Tarasque overcome by St. Martha, de Mortillet collection, French, 1801-1920. Some coins are still made from silver. The fine colour and high polish shown by this metal have maintained its pre-eminence for tableware. Silver resists many corrosive environments and is used to line brewing vats. Silver, however is tarnished by sulphur compounds. Silver alloys include silver solder (30%copper, and 10% zinc in silver) which has a melting point of 775C and good strength and is for joining metals both in jewellery and fine engineering work.
