Amulet necklace, 49 glass beads resembling eyes, worn to avert Evil Eye, from Hebron, Palestinian, 1880-1930

Some cultures believe that bad spirits in the form of the ‘Evil Eye’ can inflict disaster and disease, and even death. The glass beads of this necklace are painted to look like eyes to protect against the ‘Evil Eye’. The necklace was purchased in 1930 in the Palestinian city of Hebron.
