Tooled leather amuletic case on twisted leather thong, square box (oblong in section) with cross-hatched tooled decoration on front, Kordofan peoples, Sudan, 1890-1908

The square case, with cross-hatched tooled decoration on front, probably contains a protective charm for ward off headaches, written on paper, folded up and sealed within.
