Instrument consisting of flat ended metal rod set into cylindrical wooden handle, said to be a blistering iron for temples, from Ankole, Uganda, 1880-1920

One of two surgical instruments made by Banyankole people, Ankole Kingdom, Uganda, c. 1880-1920, presented, with others, to the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum by Revd. J. Roscoe, leader of the Mackie Ethnological Expedition. This larger instrument was described in the Museum register as a "blistering iron for temples", the smaller, a similar tool "for chest".
