Amuletic armlet, comprising twisted leather thong threaded with 2 leather cases. The square case contains a written charm (ketab) and the small leather sack a preparation of roots. Designed to be worn around the arm above the elbow, used by the Mahdi of Sudan, Sudanese, 1850-1908
