Earthenware tile, glazed, decorated with polychrome scene showing circumcision of Jesus
Circumcision is practised across the world but is particularly associated with the Jewish faith. Male babies born into the faith are circumcised as early as eight days old. As Jesus was born into the Jewish faith, he underwent this ritual which is often performed at a synagogue. Some cultures practise circumcision for hygiene reasons.
