Lotus Excel sports car, unit no. 260F
The Lotus Excel was based on the design of the Lotus Eclat. It was launched in October 1982 and upgraded several times between then and 1992 when production ceased, with 2,075 cars having been built. The main car body was designed by Oliver Winterbottom and manufactured from two parts of vacuum injected GRP (glass reinforced plastic) - an upper and a lower part, mounted on a steel chassis. These were joined together with the join hidden by black trim around the car. An SE version was fitted with a front stepped air dam behind the normal one and a revised rear wing and a 180bhp engine in place of the standard 160bhp version.
