Shop round, clear glass, empty, for chloroform solution, English, 19th to early 20th century

The label on this bottle 'AQ:CHLOROF' stands for chloroform solution. Vapours from the liquid were given as anaesthetics, including for childbirth until the 1940s. Controls were put in place over who could give anaesthetics and under what circumstances.
