Two panels of circuitry for West Sole A telemetry system
Two panels, one smaller and one larger, for a telemetry system which was built in 1965 by Shropshire-based Serck Controls for use in the control room of West Sole Platform A. Both panels have circuit assemblies mounted onto them. The larger panel is modular in design and is composed of three vertical columns.

Telemetry systems are used for the collection, transmission and measuring of information from distant and remote locations. Telemetry systems are subsequently invaluable in monitoring and maintaining various complex industrial, commercial, environmental, and electrical processes and activities.
These parts are from one of the UK’s first commercial telemetry systems in the control room for West Sole A, the first UK offshore gas platform which came on stream in 1967. This telemetry system allowed for the remote monitoring and controlling of the platform from land in real time, including the ability to switch the platform off in cases of emergency or maintenance. This design of telemetry system used germanium transistors, which eventually fell out of popular use and production over the course of the 1960s and 70s. As such, by the 1980s this telemetry system was made redundant and replaced with a more up-to-date computer system.
