Sterling silver nipple shield, hallmarked, London, 1801
Made from hallmarked sterling silver. Nipple shields were designed as breast feeding aids to be worn over the nipple and areola of the breast of a lactating woman, permitting the flow of breast milk while providing a larger surface for the baby to latch on to.
