Sterling silver posset pot with two handles, spout and lid, hallmarked in London, by William Andrews, English, 1698
Posset, made from hot milk curdled with ale or wine, and sometimes thickened with breadcrumbs, was drunk as a popular remedy for colds. Spices could also be added to the mixture.
It is made from sterling silver and the maker, silversmith Andrew Williams, was identified from the hallmarks on the base of the pot and the lid.
