Metal statue of White Tara with Buddhisattva (bodhisattva) crown, representing wisdom and divine purity, Nepalase or Tibetan, 1801-1900
Tara is a prominent female Buddha in Buddhism, primarily revered primarily in Nepal and Tibet. A popular form is White Tara (Sitatārā), who is associated with healing, longevity and maternal compassion. She is typically depicted in a seated lotus position as shown here, with eyes on her palms and soles, as well as a third eye on her forehead, symbolising her ability to see and help those in need.
