Papier mache acupuncture figure, Japanese
This figure is marked with acupuncture points and was used as a teaching tool. The figure is made from papier-mâché. Acupuncture has been practised in East Asia for over 3,000 years.
Acupuncture aims to improve the flow of qi (chi) or energy in the body by applying needles to specific points on the skin. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and traditional Japanese medicine (Kanpo) teach that qi must flow freely through the body’s meridians, or channels, to ensure health and well-being.
