Model of mutilation of Chinese criminal's body, wood, 1/30 scale, English, 1910-1950
This model, which was made in England, shows the mutilation of a Chinese criminal’s body. The victim has been lashed between posts while two men saw vertically through his body. The Chinese had various methods of execution. These included ‘slow slicing’, which involved the piecemeal cutting of the body. It was especially cruel because it caused a lingering death. Slow slicing was outlawed in 1905.
It is unclear whether the model represents the execution of a live criminal or the mutilation of the body. The model is made of wood and was created to a 1/30 scale.
