Pair of child's adjustable orthopaedic boots with steel leg braces made by I.A. Best and Son, Birmingham, 1879-1923

Secured around the waist with a leather strap, the child-size adjustable boots are worn with the steel leg braces. Leg braces are worn by patients who have conditions affecting the growth of the leg bones, such as rickets and polio. The braces help support the weight of the body and encourage leg bones to grow in the correct positions.
