Teapot stand, hinged plywood, for use by arthritics, England, 1980
This teapot stand tap was developed for people with arthritis. Arthritis is a painful joint condition that causes swelling and stiffness. People with arthritis often have difficulty grasping or picking things up. The plywood stand lets the teapot sit safely while the hinged base is raised to pour the tea. Simple aids such as this stand have been developed to help with everyday activities. It was donated to the Science Museum’s collections by the British Rheumatism & Arthritis Association.
