Chainomatic, two pan, analytical balance model 8AC, with Auto-dex, by Christian Becker Inc, New York, c1920, capacity 200gm. Balance has 6.5" beam, a glazed mahogany case with black glass floor, two spirit levels at right angles are incorporated in the base of the pillar, both the front and back panes slide up. The drawer in the base is fitted out to hold the beam and small parts for packing when the balance is moved. Serial No. B13379.

This is one of many attempts made to provide speedy, automatic registration of fractional weights. A light chain hangs from an adjustable support and is attached to the balance beam, so that the beam supports a variable weight of chain. By lowering the support a great length of chain hangs from the beam.
