Model of space formulae for Benzene; Ladenburg's formulae

These models were designed to illustrate some of the structures that were proposed for benzene prior to modern molecular orbital theories.

This prism structured, proposed in 1869, rivalled Kekule’s for a time. Its downfall was its inability to explain the properties of some disubstituted compounds.
