Wooden towel rail in form of a man with growth on neck probably Italian, 1750-1800

Towel rails are not normally where we would expect to see examples of pathological conditions. Carved from wood, a growth on the neck which covers most of the shoulder can be clearly seen on this figure. Not much is known about the origins of the object but the rail may have been used in a private house or a public baths.
