Cabinet, embossed and engraved with Islamic motifs, brass, possibly Persian, 1400-1850
Embossed and engraved with Islamic motifs and Arabic script, this brass cabinet was probably was used to store pharmaceutical preparations and ingredients. Islamic pharmacy drew partly on Greek knowledge of herbal medicine and also contributed new information about previously unknown plants and herbs. Islamic medicine also saw the opening of the first pharmacies, in the 1200s.
