Base of large copper still, includes all components from flange with eye-bolts to floor, unsigned, Europe, 1890-1900. Used by used by Glaxo for pharmaceutical preparation.


This copper still was used by manufacturing chemists as a condenser to make medical treatments called tinctures on a large scale. Tinctures are alcohol solutions of medicine. The still would have been used to make medicine from herbs such as belladonna. Tincture of belladonna is used to treat ulcers and diarrhoea.
