The Pyroscan maps and records temperature for medical use. The unit measures temperature variations over a portion of the body. It presents them in pictorial form known as a thermographic image. Temperature is measured by sensing the amount of infrared radiation emitted from the patient’s body. This is then mapped to provide a thermal image of the body. Variations in surface tissue temperature can reflect certain conditions within the body. The interpretation of these thermographic images assists physicians with their diagnosis. The Pyroscan unit was made by London-based manufacturer Smiths Industries Limited.
