Print. Aquatint, 'Surrey Institution'. / Rowlandson & Pugin delt & sculpt; J.C. Stadler aquat. - 'Plate 81' from The London Microcosm, 1809, by J C Stadler after Thomas Rowlandson and Augustus Pugin, published London Sept 1st 1809 at R Ackermann's Repository of Arts 101 Strand. Platemark 23.2x28 cm on sheet 27x34cm. Scientific lecturing to mixed audience inside the Surrey Institution, opened 1809; some apparatus on lecturer's table. Pugin drew the architectural features and Rowlandson drew the people. Hand coloured aquatint showing Friedrich Accum giving a chemistry lecture at the Surrey Institution. The London Microcosm was published by William Henry Pyne and written by William Combe.
