Large plaster medallion of Luigi Galvani, copy, European, 1780-1920. Said to be a stucco copy of the medallion on the door of the house in Bologna, Italy, where Galvani was born, but see note. The head, shown in profile, is facing the left-hand side of the medallion. The medallion reads 'LUIGI' on the left side and 'GALVANI' on the right. Acquired by Wellcome in 1912 or 1913 alongside, or shortly after, the Galvani Collection.
