Saddle-bag first aid kit, pair of canvas panniers linked by rubber band, containing dressings, tablets and ointments, many prepared by Burroughs Wellcome and Co., English, 1900-1918

Marked with the words “Mounted Infantry”, this First World War British Army first aid kit was made to be carried on a horse, with each box hung either side of the horse’s body. The kit contains bandages, dressings, hypodermic syringes and carron oil for burns, all made by Burroughs Wellcome & Co.

The initials on the kit (“CLIV”) may stand for "City of London Imperial Volunteers" who served during the Boer War. Mounted infantry were almost exclusive to the Boer War.
