Finsen tube

Finsen tube, brass, by Niels R. Finsen, used by Julius Warberg, Copenhagen, Denmark, 1900-1925

The Finsen lamp was named after its inventor, Neils Ryberg Finsen (1860-1904), who in 1894 pioneered the use of ultraviolet light (UV) to treat tuberculosis of the skin. UV light is projected through the lens to a targetted area on the body. Each lamp generally had four telescopes so four patients could be treated at once.
