Collecting box made for Action Medical Research, Pied Piper/Tree House Model, unsigned, restored by Stan Coxall, Horsham, Sussex, United Kingdom 1950-1959

The charity Action Medical Research was set up in 1952 to help fund research into polio with the aim of eradicating the disease. Placed in public areas, such as outside shops and town halls, the colourful design of the box is based on the Pied Piper of Hamelin and was used to draw the attention of children. This is one of a few remaining examples.

Action Medical Research now fund studies into a large number of other debili-tating diseases and illnesses, including epilepsy and diabetes.
