Daily log book showing insulin dosages, blood and urine glucose levels, by Ames Division, United States, 1981-1991.
By monitoring glucose levels people with diabetes can control their condition. This log book shows insulin dosages and the blood and urine glucose levels of a person with diabetes. If blood sugar levels are too high (hyperglycaemic) or too low (hypoglycaemia), a person can fall into a coma. High blood sugar levels are treated with injections of insulin. Low blood sugar levels can be offset by a small amount of sugary food or drink. This book has clearly been close to hand during the injecting process as the back page is covered in dried blood.
