Two balsa wood models of histone subunits (red and yellow) made at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge

Histone is the name given to a group of proteins found with DNA and used during DNA replication and gene activity. They act as ‘spool’ around which the DNA can wind. Histone subunits (the red and yellow model) are amino acids.

The models were made and lent by the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the University of Cambridge.
